My name is Rodion Yefymov, I was born in 1980 in the North of Crimea in a little town called Krasnoperekopsk. We then moved toYevpatoria, situated on the Crimean Peninsula, then part of the Soviet Union now known as Ukraine.
I started school in 1987 but in 1994 my parents enrolled me at the Military Cadet Lyceum at Donetck, East Ukraine. After two years I decided such a structured environment wasn't right for me as I need my freedom too much, freedom of thinking I 've moved back toYevpatoriya to continue my education. At this point I had to decide what to do with my life and who I wanted to be. It was a hard decision as I wanted to try all different things but everything in my country was changing rapidly so I decided on management and left for university where I studied for two years.
I was doing really well, my friend and I had our own company selling health products and we had plenty of money. I could do what I wanted but unfortunately, I tried drugs. Obviously it was very upsetting for my family and myself. Once I had reached rock bottom I knew I had to change my life. I found a new direction and meaning that has made me so much more fulfilled as a person.
In 2000 my parents and my brother who was living in London already arranged for me to go to London I began learning English and started work part time in a nightclub I still did not know what to do with my life until I thought about the last time I saw my grandfather in 1989. He was a keen photographer and I still remember his old Kiev and Zorkii cameras and how he taught me about exposure, shutter speeds etc. Most of all I remember that magical feeling of developing my first picture in the dark room.
Now I can definitely say photography is in my blood. I am still young with fresh and exciting ideas and always learning from all around me. I believe photography is an art form that should touch peoples’ hearts and stimulate their thoughts. The main areas I would like to eventually explore are photojournalism and cinematography. These would allow me to combine my love of photography with my passion for writing enabling me to share my thoughts and emotions with others.
What does photography mean to me?
AN AWAKENING OF THE HUMAN CONSCIOUSNESS - OTHERWISE WHAT IS THE POINT? |
